Lake Barbora: swimming near Teplice in a flooded mine with clear water and Ore Mountains views

Lake Barbora near Oldřichov is one of the best natural swimming spots in the Teplice region. It offers two beaches, deep clear water, Eurocamp facilities, a dog-friendly beach, water sports and surprisingly usable public transport.

Who it suits

Lake Barbora is a good choice if you want natural swimming with facilities. It lies near Oldřichov between Teplice, Duchcov and Košťany, below the Ore Mountains, and has the unusual character of a flooded former open-cast mine.

It suits families, couples, friends, recreational swimmers, paddleboarders, divers and travellers who want to combine swimming with camping. Eurocamp Barbora makes it possible to stay close to the water in a tent, caravan, motorhome or cabin.

Why the lake is interesting

Barbora was created by flooding a former surface mine. Because of that, it is much deeper than a normal pond and feels more like a lake than a typical Czech swimming spot.

There are two beaches. The main beach is the classic summer zone with facilities and no dogs. The dog beach is on the left shore, so travelling with a dog is possible without sneaking around the rules.

Swimming and water quality

Barbora is an officially monitored bathing site. The Ústí regional public health authority includes it in its 2026 monitoring calendar as the former Barbora mine pit in the Teplice district.

Always check the current water-quality rating before swimming. Deep flooded lakes can be beautiful, but they still require respect, especially with children, weaker swimmers and windy conditions.

Beaches, dogs and facilities

The main beach is suitable for regular swimming, sunbathing and families. Eurocamp provides sanitary facilities and refreshments are available at the Yacht Club and around the beach. Eurocamp guests have free access to both beaches.

Dogs belong on the dog beach on the left shore, not on the main beach.

Prices and season

Tourist information lists the swimming area as open from June to September, daily 8:00–19:00. Outside the season, access to the reservoir is free. Listed seasonal entry prices are CZK 80 adult, CZK 40 reduced and CZK 180 family.

Treat these as practical orientation and verify current operation and prices before travelling.

Water sports and activities

Barbora is also used for diving, sailing and other water activities. Eurocamp lists paddleboard rental at CZK 150 for 60 minutes and beach volleyball court rental at CZK 200 for 60 minutes.

For calm swimming, mornings and weekdays are best. For full summer atmosphere, come in July or August and expect more people.

Getting there

By car, head to Oldřichov near Jeníkov. Public transport is usable: the Jeníkov-Oldřichov railway stop is about 600 metres away, and the bus stop Jeníkov, Oldřichov, Barbora is listed directly by the swimming area. Always check current timetables.

Watch out

Barbora is deep and natural. Check water quality, do not take dogs to the main beach, arrive early on hot weekends and keep a close eye on children near the water.
